I have been a member of several Masonic fraternities since 2004. These groups build our local community through charitable support (we donate monthly) and also hel
The Masonic organization is a service based fraternity. We are a group of like minded men who get together with the common goal of bettering ourselves and our fellow Brothers. We accept certain principles and teach those principles through ritual and stories. Our organization is layered, so that members receive information at different times in their membership. Initially there is a 3 level system, Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft and Master Mason. All men wishing to enter the fraternity will progress through these 3 levels of membership. Each level requiring work from the candidate in exchange for further knowledge and skills. This work is dependent on Masonic study and ritual. Our fraternity is not a religion and we accept members from all religions, however we do not accept atheists. If you do not have belief in a higher source you cannot be a Mason. I have Masonic Brothers that are Christian, Jewish, Hindu and Muslim. Unlike a social club, becoming a Mason will require some effort and work, most candidates reaching the Master Mason level within 3-9 months. We are a private Fraternity and do not solicit members, the only way to become a Mason is to be voted into the fraternity by other Masons, ASK12B1. I have been a member for more than 18 years, representing 4 generations of Masons in my family and I can tell you that joining was the most rewarding thing I have ever done. If you have any questions please just reach out.
It is a strange thing to be asked, "How can I help? Immediately we tend to put up a defense. Saying things like, "I don't need help! or "What makes you think I need any help?" It is true that most people offer help with strings attached or alterior motives. I understand and you are correct to assume this and be cautious. However, I am not those people. I come from a place of service when I ask how I can help. I have found that I usually have something useful to offer. If it is within my cable tow brother, allow me to be of help. I have knowledge in the areas of Real Estate, Medicine and The Esoteric Arts, just let me know if there is anything I can do. So Mote It Be.
My Grandfather Chesley Francis Stokes was born 1922 and raised Nov.10th 1947, in Whiteway Lodge #3541 under the United Grand Lodge of England, which claims descent from the Masonic grand lodge formed June 24, 1717 at the Goose & Gridiron Tavern in London. It is considered to be the oldest Masonic Grand Lodge in the world. Brother "Frank" Stokes was the 328th member of the Whiteway Lodge. He is pictured here on the right as Junior Warden however he also served as Worship Master in 1956. The Whiteway Lodge received a new warranty from the newly formed Grand Lodge of Newfoundland in 1997 and was renamed Whiteway Lodge #8. My Grandfather resigned from Whiteway Lodge March 28th, 1996 prior to the formation of the Grand Lodge in Newfoundland.. many brothers at that time felt disenfranchised with the reassignment process and either affiliated with other Grand Lodges or resigned.
My Grandfather Josiah Babb (Mothers side) was raised May 29th, 1950 in the Lodge of Harbor Grace #446 holding of the Grand Lodge of Scotland founded in 1736.
The oldest records held by the Grand Lodge of Scotland are minutes of Lodge Aitcheson's Haven which commence on January 9, 1599. Josiah is pictured here with my Grandmother Margaret, at his wedding. This is his actual Masonic record which I have in my possession. Josiah was very close to me and was referred to as "Daddy Joe" by my sister and I growing up.
My Great Grandfather Bela Stokes, born in 1888 in Safe Harbour NFLD. Fought in World War 1, and was awarded a medal. pictured on the left was a military man who came home from the war and made a living building houses. Bela was a Master Mason. My Great, Great, Grandfather Benjamin Stokes, pictured here on the right, was also a Master Mason. Born July 23, 1849 at Cape Freels, NFLD and called on January 4, 1931 at age 82 and buried in Safe Harbour. I am still working on recovering these Masonic records for both of these great men from the United Grand Lodge of England.
Also and equally important, my Grandmother Vera Snow married Frank Stokes, my grandfather. Vera’s grandfather was William Cook, and his father was Sir Trasker Cook. Sir Trasker was directly from England with connections to the royal family. Sir Trasker Cook and his son William Cook were both Master Masons. I am working on obtaining records however my uncles Paul Stokes and Glen Stokes discovered their gravestones in Newfoundland Canada and I immediately recognized the Masonic Square and Compass symbol.
